Gen Alpha Snubs Boomer Careers, SAG-AFTRA Launches Influencer Committee, and TikTok Touts Livestreaming as Next Big Revenue Stream

In our 55th edition, we’re looking at Gen Alpha’s career shift, SAG-AFTRA’s influencer move, and TikTok’s big livestreaming bet.

🚀 Gen Alpha Snubs Boomer Careers

Gone are the days of dreaming about being a firefighter or astronaut — Gen Alpha is choosing ring lights over résumés. A new report from Whop reveals that 32% of U.S. kids aged 12–15 aspire to be YouTubers, while 21% want to become TikTok creators. Raised on vlogs, viral videos, and livestreams, these digital natives see creators like MrBeast and Charli D’Amelio not just as celebrities, but as career blueprints.

What’s driving the shift? Relatability, accessibility, and algorithmic fame. Many Gen Alpha kids are already being courted by brands: 23% have received influencer sponsorship offers, and 30% say they’d consider monetizing their content online.

According to Whop’s 2024 survey, Gen Alpha’s top career picks reflect a digital-first mindset: 32% want to be YouTubers, 21% TikTok creators, and 19% video game developers. Still, traditional paths aren’t off the table — 20% dream of becoming doctors or nurses, while others aim to be entrepreneurs (17%), artists (16%), athletes (15%), musicians (14%), or teachers (14%).

🎬 SAG-AFTRA Launches Influencer Committee

SAG-AFTRA's recent move to create an Influencer Committee marks a pivotal step in its expansion into the digital creator economy. By forming this committee, SAG-AFTRA aims to support creators beyond just branded content and offer them guidance in the evolving digital world.

Why It Matters for Digital Creators:

  • Representation: The committee will give influencers a voice within the union, advocating for their rights and needs.

  • Industry Standards: It seeks to establish standards and infrastructure for the growing creator economy.

  • Stability and Support: By leveraging the union's experience, the committee aims to create safer, more sustainable career paths for digital creators.

SAG-AFTRA’s move shows a commitment to addressing the unique challenges digital creators face, as the union expands its coverage and resources to include non-branded, original content in the digital space. This initiative not only solidifies the influencer role in modern media but also ensures creators have the support they need to thrive long-term.

📱TikTok Touts Livestreaming as Big Revenue Stream

TikTok is positioning livestreaming as the next major revenue stream for creators and agencies, with $10 million in daily revenue currently being generated through the platform’s Live feature. The company is doubling down on livestreaming by offering dedicated tools and training, including a Discord server for creators and agency collaborations to help boost earnings.

Key Livestreaming Stats:

  • $63 million in revenue generated by TikTok Live creators in the last 30 days 🤯.

  • 80.4% of that revenue came from creators with fewer than 50,000 followers.

  • 400,000 creators go live daily, with over 30 million viewers watching TikTok livestreams every day.

While livestreaming already contributes to creator income through virtual gifts and audience engagement, the platform’s push for e-commerce integration is opening new revenue doors. TikTok’s focus on livestreaming not only strengthens creator engagement but positions the platform as a key player in the evolving creator economy, offering both agencies and creators a sustainable path to growth.
