200K Manga Sales in a Week, Bluesky Adds Blue Checks, and Netflix Throws Shade at YouTube

In our 54th edition, we’re diving into Cory’s wild week of Manga sales, Bluesky jumping on the blue check trend, and Netflix taking shots at YouTube.

📚 CoryxKenshin’s Manga Just Sold 200K Copies

YouTube icon CoryxKenshin’s debut manga “You & The Monsters We Make” has sold over 200,000 physical copies in just one week. The horror-action title, co-created with writer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai), is published by Saturday AM, a company pushing diverse creators in manga spaces.

This is a major signal: creators are no longer just internet famous—they’re shaping mainstream media. Coryx’s YouTube audience didn’t just passively support the project—they showed up en masse, proving that creator-led IP has real-world purchasing power.

For digital creators, this is validation. If your storytelling is strong and your community trusts you, traditional gatekeepers aren’t necessary. The blueprint is shifting: you don’t need a legacy publisher to move hundreds of thousands of units anymore. You just need a platform—and a purpose.

We pulled Cory’s Blueprint Report (part of our premium subscription) do you think his engagement is above or below average for similar creators? See for yourself here!

✅ Bluesky Launches Blue Check Verification

Bluesky has officially rolled out its blue check verification system, a big move toward legitimacy and trust on the decentralized Twitter alternative. The checks verify domain ownership, meaning your badge is tied to a website you own—not just vibes.

This adds a layer of credibility and identity protection in a space that’s rapidly attracting more users and creators looking for alternatives to X. The timing is no accident: Bluesky recently opened to the public and now needs to prove it’s more than just a clone.

What the New Bluesky Verification System Includes:

  • Domain-Based Verification
Users get a blue check by verifying ownership of a custom domain (e.g., you.com, yourbrand.org).

  • No Payment Required (Yet)
Unlike X (formerly Twitter), this verification system is free. There’s no subscription model—just a technical process to prove domain ownership.

  • Open Standards, Not Corporate Control
Bluesky’s approach relies on AT Protocol, meaning your identity and verification aren’t platform-locked. It’s a step toward more user control in social networking.

While some are already clowning the feature as “Web3 LinkedIn,” the truth is verification matters when you’re building an audience in a decentralized space. Expect more creator tools—and possibly monetization pathways—soon.

🎬 Netflix Shades YouTube—Then Signs Its Stars

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos recently threw shade at YouTube, calling it the “killing time” platform. But actions speak louder: Netflix just inked a deal with Kill Tony, a hit comedy podcast that built its entire audience on YouTube.

The deal includes three episodes and a stand-up special from host Tony Hinchcliffe. Meanwhile, Kill Tony stayed visible on YouTube with a clever ad-loop video in place of its usual Monday episode—netting views and likely some ad revenue.

Netflix also dropped Bad Influence, a documentary about controversial YouTuber Piper Rockelle and her former “Squad,” showing it’s not just buying creator content—it’s digging into creator drama too.

Why It Matters for Creators:

  • YouTube is still the proving ground—Netflix is scouting, not ignoring it.

  • Monetization is smarter on YouTube—Hinchcliffe used a loop video to drive ad views despite the Netflix drop.

  • Platform blending is the new playbook—Use one platform’s audience to fuel success on another.

  • Your story has value—Even creator controversies are now streamer-worthy content.

Creators aren’t waiting for a seat at the table—they’re building the table, and Netflix is pulling up a chair.
